I have been loving this series of making our dinner out of only 5 ingredients for 10 days!
Grocery shopping is something I only do every 10 days, you can read about how I do that and save a ton of money here! So, by limited what we are eating for dinner every night to only 5 ingredients, I am making my already simple process even more simple!
After we completed the 10 days my beef edition, me and my husband both agreed that we weren’t even tired of the foods when the time was up! This just goes to show, that you don’t need as much in each grocery haul as you might think.
A lot of the time, more variety equals more money spent. I’m trying to combat that by using 5 ingredients in creative ways to not only stretch our grocery dollar, but also not get burned out on the food we are eating!
I always want to straddle the line of healthy, budget friendly, and fun to eat!
If we go too far on any of those three criteria, meal time becomes no fun.
Anyways, for 10 days, my family ate all vegetarian dinners made out of just 5 ingredients!
Eating only 5 ingredients for 10 days in a row has saved us serious money on our grocery bill, and has made me be more creative with meals!
We’re trying out the same old foods in different ways and most of the time, it has been really yummy!
Only 5 Ingredients, 10 Vegetarian Dinners
The only ingredients for the next 10 days are:
- Rice
- Sweet Potatoes
- Black Beans
- Spinach
- Eggs
Here is the meal plan for this cycle:
Day 1: Sweet Potato Taco Rice Bowls
Day 2: Spinach and Sweet Potato Fried Rice
Day 3: Fried Egg Sweet Potato Toast
Day 4: Spinach Rissoto
Day 5: Black Bean Burgers with Fried Eggs

For this plan, I’m counting on the pantry staples that I already have in my kitchen. For example, I will use olive oil, but won’t include it on my ingredient list.
Things that are considered pantry staples for me are:
- Spices and Seasonings
- Oils
- Butter
- Broth or Bouillon
By only cooking with 5 ingredients, we are saving a lot of money!
We only spent $16.88 for all of the dinners for the next 10 days. That averages only $1.69 per meal, or $0.42 per person!
- Rice: $2.42
- Sweet Potatoes: $5.68
- Beans: $1.14
- Spinach: $1.98
