Have you been thinking about trying Butcher Box? This is my real and unsponsored opinion of the box I got!
Butcher Box. You’ve heard of them I’m sure! They are the meat subscription box that is behind the fantastic marketing campaign that got them in front of all of the United States.
It feels like everyone from my youtube ads to my favorite podcast are promoting the box and I’ve added Butcher Box meat to a cart on their website more than a couple of times.
This past Christmas, my sister gifted us a box from Butcher Box and when you say something is like Christmas morning, this really was! I was SO excited to open up the box and check out all of the goodies inside.
Over the past few weeks we have eaten through most of it and now I can give you my honest review on if it’s really worth it!
What is ButcherBox?
ButcherBox is a meat subscription service that delivers high quality grass-fed and organic meat right to your door. It’s super convenient and a great way to help you start planning meals based on the meats you had delivered.
How does it work?
You sign up on the ButcherBox website for a subscription box. They have different specials running all of the time, so be sure to check that out! The boxes include the types of meat that you prefer.
You can custom make a box with exactly the type of meat you would like or you can choose one of their pre-chosen boxes.
How often you receive a box is up to you. It can be every 4, 6 or 8 weeks.
It’s all delivered right to your door frozen solid and neatly packaged with dry ice.
What cuts of meat are included in a ButcherBox?
That’s totally up to you!
The box that I was gifted from my sister included:
- 3 Organic Chicken Breasts
- 2 pounds Grass-Fed Ground Beef
- 2 Filet Mignon
- 1 10 oz Bacon
- 1 pound Sirloin Tips
- 4 boneless Pork Chops
- 1 pound Apple Chicken Sausage
It was a ton of meat and it neatly stocked our freezer for a full month!
Price
I didn’t purchase my box of meat from ButcherBox since it was a gift, so I can’t truly speak to the price value.
According to the ButcherBox website, it costs about $6 per meal to use their meat. That is definitely cheaper than buying high quality meat from the grocery store, but not as cheap as buying meat by shopping the sales at your local grocery store and freezing the extras.
So, for price it’s definitely not the best value that you can get. If you’re just looking to save money, then ButcherBox is probably not for you.
Taste
This meat is SO good. It really is a top quality product and I absolutely loved feeding it to my family!
The ground beef was particularly good and if I reorder sometime I will get a lot of that!
The boneless chicken was also really really good and well trimmed. There wasn’t any waste and it made our dishes taste SO good.
Convenience
This is where ButcherBox really takes the cake! You really can’t get any more convenient than having meat delivered right to your door.
If you’re having trouble getting started with meal planning I think that this would be a great way to start. Looking at the meats that come in your box you can quickly and easily come up with meals for a few weeks.
The convenience factor is a big thing that might just help you get started saving money. You can always stop your subscription anytime, so when you get the hang of planning your meals and saving money you can start buying food on sale and keeping up the process.
Final Thoughts About ButcherBox
I think it’s so fun! You’re receiving a really high quality product in a super convenient way (hello, automatic subscription!) It was a great gift!
I don’t think that ButcherBox really fits into our family budget right now, but I could definitely see it being something I choose in the future.
If your top priority is convenience and having grass-fed organic meats then it’s definitely a great option!
