Do you want to feed your family a nutritious breakfast on a very tight budget? This is for you!
I love breakfast. Really, a lot of the time when I’m going to bed I’m thinking about eating breakfast the next morning. One of my favorite things about my honeymoon… the amazing breakfast we had delivered to our room every morning. The best part about Christmas morning… you guessed it… breakfast.
While I love the special and decadent breakfasts that things like Christmas bring… I also really really enjoy my every day breakfast that I have with my family.
Another thing I really love about our breakfast is that it saves us a TON of money.
It’s also really easy to prepare, clean up, and is SO healthy that I feel great about giving it to my kiddos!
Everyone in our family eats the same breakfast every morning.
It’s part of a routine that keeps everything running smoothly around here!
Guess what… I’ve been eating this breakfast in some variation every single day for the past 6 years and I still LOVE it.
What is this super affordable, healthy, and delicious breakfast?
Oatmeal.
Yep, every morning I look forward to my piping hot bowl of oatmeal and it is just my favorite thing!
How This Breakfast Saves Us a Ton of Money
The wonderful thing about oats is that they are shelf stable, and the more you buy the cheaper they are by ounce. This means that if you have the pantry for it (I don’t) then you could buy oats in however large of bulk quantities your heart desires!
Since I don’t have a pantry or any place to store large amounts, I buy a 40 pound container every 10 days. That feeds my family for 20 days perfectly!
The 40 ounce containers of oats that I buy are $3.98. For 365 days I buy 36.5 containers a year. With a little bit of brown sugar (about 2 bags at $1.70 each a year) we are all set!
Let’s do the math. For oats, that is $145.27, then we’ll add on $3.40 for the sugar. That means it’s $148.67 for the year to feed my family breakfast!
You really can’t do any better than that!
