I LOVE oatmeal. Oatmeal has been my breakfast of choice for YEARS. It all started with some instant oats when I was a first year teacher.
Pouring a packet into a bowl and popping them into the microwave was a welcome warm treat on those 5:30AM commutes to my school.
I held onto those instant oats packets until I got married and then I discovered quick oats. The same quickness as the instant oats, but WAY cheaper. This is also when I started eating gluten free.
Oats are naturally gluten free, but they can be processed in a facility that also processes wheat. Some people who have a more severe gluten intolerance than me may not be able to eat regular oats, but I have never had an adverse reactions (I do from breads and anything with wheat flour).
For a LONG time, I ate a half of a cup of quick oats with butter and brown sugar. Delicious and kept me full until lunch time! As yummy as brown sugar is, it probably isn’t the best thing to start my day with each and every morning.
After a stint of Whole30, we started sweetening our oats with unsweetened applesauce and raisins.
My toddlers eat applesauce oats every morning to this day! They LOVE it. I also really enjoy eating oats in that way too. But I have a new favorite way to prepare my morning bowl of oatmeal!
Chocolate Oats
YUM!
Who doesn’t want to start their day out with a warm bowl of chocolatey goodness??
It’s super simple to make, and satisfies my sweet tooth in a way that keeps me from reaching for sugary treats later in the day.
The chocolate and peanut butter also make it extremely satisfying! I’m not hungry for HOURS after I eat my morning bowl. This is a HUGE plus when you’re a busy mama of two little girls!
My Favorite Chocolate Oatmeal
I start out with half of a cup of dry quick oats. I cook them in the microwave or on the stovetop according to the directions on the packaging.
After they’re cooked, I add a tablespoon of peanut butter, half a tablespoon of cocoa powder, and a tablespoon of honey.
After a quick stir, they’re a big bowl of chocolate and peanut butter goodness!
Basically it’s, a healthier way to eat a big chocolate oatmeal cookie first thing in the morning!
Both of my toddler girls love to eat chocolate oats too! They are always asking for a bite out of my bowl, and it’s a treat that I’m happy to share.
