Exercising has always been an important part of my life. I was super active growing up, and always found time everyday to go the gym during college.
After that, getting to go to a workout class or for a run was something that helped me recharge after or before work.
I knew when I became a mama, my workout routine would look a little bit different.
And it absolutely does!
There have been different seasons of pregnancy, newborn months, and adding another baby to the mix. All of those seasons have looked different when it comes to my workout routine!
The key thing is that no matter the season, no matter how little sleep I am getting, no matter how sick a feel, I ALWAYS make time to exercise in some way.
During the newborn and freshly postpartum days, it may look like a short walk around the block with the baby in the carrier.
When I’m not sleeping a lot, stretching and restful yoga type workouts might be the most fitting.
Every single day, no matter the season, I make time to work out!
Right now, I have two little kids! One 2 year old and one almost 1 year old.
We are mostly all sleeping through the night now, and life is pretty predictable. That is super helpful when it comes to me being able to keep up with any routine, especially my workout routine!
Here is the workout routine that works for me right now with 2 little girls.
Every morning, I always take a short jog. Somewhere between 1-2 miles is something I can keep up with everyday without being too hard on my knees.
It really feels SO good to just run out of the house and get my heart rate up before I do anything else.
Right now, Lucy is still taking two naps a day. I’m expecting she’ll probably drop it somewhere in the next couple of months, but I’m taking advantage of it for now!
When Lucy goes down around 9:30, me and Rosy do her homeschool routine and we get finished around 10:45.
After that, Rosy reads independently in the living room while I do a quick weight training workout by watching a YouTube video.
Usually some sort of arms, abs or legs workout with dumbbells depending on what I feel like.
Having those few minutes dedicated to that helps me to always just automatically get started whenever we finish her school time!
I don’t do any other household chore until I’ve finished.
Sometimes Lucy may wake up early, and on those days I either do something quickly while she plays around me after I get her out of her crib, or I just skip it.
Either way, I get a 15-20 minute strength training session in at least 5 days a week.
After Lucy is up, we get everyone dressed and go for a stroller walk.
Both girls LOVE being outside and going for walks. I strap them into the double stroller and we walk a couple of miles around the neighborhood before lunch.
Pushing a double stroller is no joke!
I really feel like this is almost as much of a strength training exercise as my workout video is!
That’s it!
There is no fancy workout class or gym membership involved in my current routine and that is OK!
Spin class or going to the gym may be in my future someday, but it’s not right now. My priority is spending as much time as possible with my girls while still keeping up with healthy habits.
This is the workout routine that allows me to stay healthy and keep active, but not have to miss out on time with the girls at all!
The key is to find what works and fits into your current life season and go with it.
Don’t overthink your workout routine, just get moving!
I hope this is helpful to you!
