This summer we have been married 6 years!
It has gone by SO quickly.
Looking back, it feels like both it was yesterday and also that it was about a lifetime ago when we tied the knot.
We have learned SO much through the last 6 years about ourselves and about marriage.
There has been so much growth through our first 6 years of marriage!
But there is one piece of advice that me and Clay both agree has been integral to our relationship!
It’s something so simple, but has been so life giving to our marriage and family.
Neither of us give a ton of advice to new couples, but when we’re asked we both always say the same thing.
The number one thing we tell engaged or newlywed couples is to do this one simple thing every day together.
That simple thing is something that we have done almost every single night is take a walk!
Every single evening, we walk and talk for about 30 minutes. When it was just the two of us, we walked together with our dog Max.
Now, we push a double stroller with two baby girls, our dog Max on a leash and we take a stroll around our neighborhood.
Cold or hot, snow or shine we are out taking a walk every evening.
These walks have been so amazing for our marriage!
Every evening we just spend some time in intentional conversation.
If there is anything on our hearts or minds, we share it with each other.
We dream out loud and problem solve our struggles. Everything is easier to talk about when you’re moving, so our conversations get deep quickly.
The girls are in the stroller and content looking around, so we really have the chance to focus and talk!
It is the best.
Our walks are something I look forward to every single night.
If there is something on my heart or mind, I know that I’ll get the chance to talk about it or talk through it with Clay that evening.
Having that time built into our routine is SO amazing.
I’ve made a free printable with some conversation starters to help you get into your walking and talking groove!
