Want to save serious money at the grocery store?
Try preparing food from the same 5 foods for 10 dinners in a row!
This way, I’m able to do a few things that save a lot of money.
First, I can buy the items that I do purchase in large quantities. Buying in bulk is an easy way to save money (if you use all of it!!)
For example, I can buy the super large container of cheese because we’ll use it all… it’s significantly cheaper per ounce than buy several smaller packages.
Second, I’m using all of the food that I buy instead of just part of a package for one recipe.
I can buy a large package potatoes or meat because I have a plan for all of it. No food is wasted, it is all used!
For 10 days, my family and I ate just 5 ingredients for dinner.
The ingredients we used during this 10 day were:
- Ground Beef
- Cheese
- Pinto Beans
- Russet Potatoes
- Carrots
I do use a few ingredients that I consider pantry items, but you could totally make these meals without those ingredients too.
Those pantry items are:
- Cooking Oils
- Butter
- Broth or Bouillon
- Milk/Cream
- Seasonings
- Eggs
By cooking with only 5 ingredients, we are spending very little on dinner!
The total for all of our dinners for the next 10 days is $20.47. This averages out to $2.05 per meal or $0.51 per person per meal!
- Beef: $12.73
- Cheese: $2.77
- Beans: $1.52
- Potatoes: $2.47
- Carrots: $0.98
I fed my family of 4 dinner for 10 days for only $20.47!
