I feel like my kiddos are constantly hungry! Well, actually they are constantly hungry! Which is understandable because they’re growing rapidly!
To combat all of that hunger I really like to have healthy options available to them all of the time. There are a few homemade snacks that I like to make every week to help keep my kids full and keep me happy because they’re also good for them!
Here are a few of the homemade snacks I make every week for my family.
Granola
I used to buy pre-packaged granola every once in a while. We didn’t eat a lot of it, and it was convenient to just pull it out of a bag when we did want it. Then, I figured out how easy it was to make granola out of just a few healthy ingredients!
We eat it all of the time now. I usually make a big batch about once a week. Then we’re set for yogurt, smoothies or just eating it plain!
My girls can hardly keep their hands out of a fresh batch cooling on the counter… but since it’s good for them, they don’t have to!
Boiled Eggs
Every single Monday mornings I boil about 12 eggs. After they’re boiled I peel them and store them in a glass storage container in the refrigerator. They usually last about 3-4 days for us.
Everyone in our family grabs one when we need a quick snack with a little bit of substance and protein!
My 4 year old loves to help me out with this weekly task by peeling all of the eggs! If you haven’t let your preschooler or toddler try peeling eggs, try it out!
Greek Yogurt Bites
I was trying to figure out a healthy treat that would actually feel like a treat for my girls a few months ago. Finally, I came up with the idea of greek yogurt bites! Every week I cook down a fruit (usually blueberries or strawberries) and blend it up with greek yogurt.
Then I pour the mixture into a cute ice mold that I have and freeze them. After they’re frozen I store them in a ziploc bag for the week. I love giving these to my kids when we’re going out for our evening walk. It feels like it’s ice cream to them, but I know it’s a protein and nutrient packed snack!
A way to make this even cheaper is to make your own yogurt in the instant pot! I do this a lot of them time (but not always!)
Homemade Cheese Crackers
It feels like sweet homemade snacks are easy to come by, but sometimes we want something a little bit salty!
We LOVE making homemade cheese crackers! It only requires cheese, butter and flour. I usually make 4 batches at a time and keep the dough in the refrigerator until I’m ready to bake it!
They’re super yummy, and I feel much better about feeding it to my kids than the processed pre-packaged version.
Homemade Granola Bars
My kiddos LOVE granola bars, and sometimes the store bought kind are super handy. However, when we are at home, I much prefer for my kids to eat homemade granola bars.
They only require peanut butter, coconut oil, old fashioned oats, honey and whatever add-ins you would like (chocolate chips, coconut, flax seed, etc.) These are GONE whenever I make them.
Banana Bread
This is a favorite for my little girls! They both love the crusty edges so as soon as a pull a loaf out of the oven, both sides are sliced off!
You really can’t get any more budget friendly than a few bananas that are past their prime and some basic pantry ingredients. Making homemade baked goods is way cheaper and much healthier than the pre-packaged equivalent!
These are the healthy and cheap snacks that I make every week for my family!
