Growing up, there was always something freshly baked sitting on the island at home. My mom was always making a loaf of banana bread, some muffins, a bundt cake, brownies, you name it!
It was just a part of life. When whatever was sitting there was running low, you better believe it would be replenished by the end of the day with something new.
Knowing there would always be something ready to snack on when I got home from school or something to satisfy my sweet tooth after dinner is a big part of what made it feel like home to me!
Recently, I read Maria Goff’s book Love Lives Here , it was so good! What an encouragement she is for mamas everywhere. What stuck out to me most through the book was how she is super intentional about making her home a refuge for her family.
She talked about tons of things that she does, but one way she did this was by having signature candle scent that she burned at home. Any time her family smelled that scent they were filled with the feeling of safety and comfort.
That is something that I want to bring to my family. Small ways that they know they are loved and cared for. Just like my mama has always done with her baked goods on the island.
Almost every week I make banana bread. I don’t eat it, but Clay and Rosy love it! I hope that it’s one small way that I can make them feel safe and sound, and a great perk is that banana bread makes your house smell AMAZING!
Here is my mom’s banana bread recipe that I made this week. Well, almost… She uses more sugar than I do!
Try it out, you really can’t go wrong!
